Crazy Happenings in Guatemala

http://www.boingboing.net/2010/05/31/guatemala-first-volc.html

I've included a link to this news story because this really happened in Guatemala City. It looks fake, but this was also in the newspaper today. This storm was actually much bigger than I realized and the post in which we were at the beach was in the city of Sipacate that was completely devastated by this storm.

I saw this online and thought it looked like it was right out of a science fiction movie. I'm glad you guys are ok. It sounds like Guatemala and many other parts of central america have been devastated. Keep yourselves safe and enjoy the opportunity to help. I'm sure you'll do both very well. Love you!

thanks for your thoughts. we are both doing well. we found out that one of the language teachers for peace corps lost his house to a mudslide and 60 people died in landslides in a village 15 minutes from ours. we are very fortunate to not have been directly affected by this disaster. all in all over 11 inches of rain fell in 36 hours, a new record since 1948. 130 bridges have been washed out and many communities are isolated. more rain predicted for the weekend, but not as much.
