Adventures back in Utah

Being back in Utah for two weeks has enabled us to do all sorts of things we have wanted to do since moving to Guatemala. Below are a few of these:

3D Imax movie with the Cala's

Walking the dog and visiting Dad's Llama

Aiden turned 10!!

We gave Wesley and Skyler their gifts early since we won't be around the next two months

Getting our favorite subs from Caputos

Enjoying the local art

More local art
Getting together with old friends

Backcountry Skiing...on Summer Lane of course

We went to the Real Salt Lake game. They won in stoppage time off a free kick...it was amazing

and very cold

Liz is still trying to warm her hands up after that game

We went down south to Joe's Valley Reservoir

And even did some bouldering at Triassic

Casey ran the Salt Lake marathon as a tribute to Saydria

We are very happy to have spent time with family and friends and most of all we are so proud of Casey for all his training for the marathon

Travis' Wedding and Preparations for the big day

Liz and I have been back in Utah for the last two weeks enjoying time with family and friends and celebrating the wedding of my baby brother Travis. We are so happy for Travis and Shaylee and wish them all the best as they begin their new lives together. We are also glad the wedding is over so that we don't have to decorate the church again!

Liz and Walt working in the woodshop to build some of the decorations
Walt cutting down branches to put into tree stumps to then cover in white lights
Starting the lights that would eventually go up on the ceiling
 Getting all the photos ready
Lights are up...now time to string up all the lights on the trees
After working all day this is how the gym was transformed
 Stacia and Liz stringing lights
Photo Shrine to Travis and Shaylee just completed
 The big day!
Bob and Evelyn came to see us at the wedding...
And they stayed for the food.
Wesley actually wanted his picture taken at the reception
 The happy couple
The wedding car all decorated

Stacia and Dad come to visit!!

Stacia and Dad came to visit for a few days and I am just now getting around to posting pictures from their trip. We had a great time and they were able to do all sorts of things with us.
Staying at the Earthlodge high above Antigua
Walt was insistent on hiking the active volcano Pacaya.
Enjoying Volcano roasted marshmallows at the top.

Walt was a little unsure about entering the natural sauna on the volcano...something about superheated caves didn't really appeal to him.

This is the trusty steed that took Walt up the mountain. In the background is the smoking Pacaya.
Antigua by night

We got Walt to play Scrabble for the first time in his life...and he liked it.

We brought the fam back to our village and one night ate tortillas with nutella for dessert. When I went to grab another tortilla Brian was kind enough to clean off the knife for me.

Walt visiting our friend Antonio's workshop in town.

Seeing how an adobe home is constructed

We had to visit the neighbor girls who loved Stacia

They also made us play with them. This is their favorite game right now, its called "pull my sister into the tree Kyle."

Stacia loved our local market and this man selling skirts.

Our vegetable aisle
I was invited to play in the teacher games for Liz's school. I  have never felt so big on a soccer field before...and I got the only goal of the game for my team.

The girls got dressed up in Traje (the traditional dress)
The women of the house loved the way Walt made his tortillas

Even Tilo joined in.

The Ladies looking lovely in their traditional dress

Stacia and Liz were also invited to play in the teacher games. They dominated at basketball...I don't know if size again had anything to do with it...but either way it was exciting.

Stacia had a fan club

This was a procession one night that we watched from our roof.  The town was bringing home one of its own who had died while working in the States. This caravan was of all the people who went out to meet the coffin and accompany it on the way back to the town

And then there was ziplining

We ended our trip with them at the lake...and for some reason these are the only pics I can find of our time there. I guess it just wasn't all that memorable there ;)
Just found more pics...here is Stacia giving Liz a Tuk-Tuk ride

Loving it.
